From an initial mandate of placing people living with disabilities in workplace positions, eDeaf has evolved a training and skills development component to compliment placement and has placed over 4000 people in 17 years.

With over 44 schools for the deaf in South Africa, only 10 offer a matric so the focus is on learnerships to bridge the gap.

Through Deafinition, sign language services are provided to the deaf, as well as sensitivity training for people in the workplace to understand the needs of their colleagues living with disabilities.

Disability Connect spoke to eDeaf CEO, Nazereen Captieux-Bhana at the Disability Summit and Career Expo 2024, who told us that very few accredited sign language interpreters serve roughly four million hearing impaired people.
