{"id":6592,"date":"2022-10-06T11:14:46","date_gmt":"2022-10-06T09:14:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/disabilityconnect.co.za\/?p=6592"},"modified":"2022-10-06T11:14:46","modified_gmt":"2022-10-06T09:14:46","slug":"six-cape-town-libraries-now-service-visually-impaired-and-those-with-learning-disabilities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.disabilityconnectexpo.com\/index.php\/2022\/10\/06\/six-cape-town-libraries-now-service-visually-impaired-and-those-with-learning-disabilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Six Cape Town libraries now service visually impaired and those with learning disabilities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The City of Cape Town\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capetownetc.com\/?s=Library+Services+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Library Services<\/a> has partnered with Tape Aids for the Avid Reader to ensure visually impaired patrons and those struggling with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capetownetc.com\/?s=learning+disabilities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">learning disabilities<\/a> such as dyslexia can\u00a0access their audiobooks more readily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recent postal delays have resulted in members of Tape Aids members struggling to receive their talking books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A pilot project between six libraries \u2013 The Central, Rondebosch, Bellville, Bellville South, Strand and Grassy Park libraries \u2013 will extend their services to include Tape Aids for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capetownetc.com\/?s=Avid+Reader\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Avid Reader<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the City\u2019s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross, \u201cThis means members of Tape Aids, as well as patrons to these libraries, will be able to access their talking<a href=\"https:\/\/www.capetownetc.com\/?s=+books+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> books<\/a> without having to wait for it to arrive via post. They can take the CD or log onto the Tape Aids website and download the audiobook to their smartphone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 2012, Tape Aids for Avid Readers\u2019 audio library has been sharing the gift of reading with persons who have difficulty reading, opening whole new worlds by transforming the silent written page to the spoken word in English and the majority of South Africa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capetownetc.com\/?s=indigenous+languages.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">indigenous languages.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Cape Town\u2019s Library Services has partnered with Tape Aids for the Avid Reader to ensure visually impaired patrons and those struggling with learning disabilities such as dyslexia can\u00a0access their audiobooks more readily.
