{"id":5584,"date":"2021-08-17T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-08-17T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/disabilityconnect.co.za\/?p=5584"},"modified":"2021-08-17T08:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-08-17T06:00:00","slug":"team-sa-name-squad-for-tokyo-2020-paralympics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.disabilityconnectexpo.com\/index.php\/2021\/08\/17\/team-sa-name-squad-for-tokyo-2020-paralympics\/","title":{"rendered":"Team SA name squad for Tokyo 2020 Paralympics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Team South Africa<\/strong>&nbsp;has announced 34 athletes for the upcoming<strong>&nbsp;Tokyo 2020 Paralympics<\/strong>&nbsp;set to take place in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The global showpiece will start on&nbsp;<strong>Tuesday, 24 August<\/strong>&nbsp;and end on&nbsp;<strong>Sunday, 5 September<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a great honour and privilege for me. From a logistical sense, things have been going well, and we are excited at the prospect of going to Tokyo and making the country proud,&#8221; said Leon Fleiser, who has been entrusted with being Team SA chef de mission.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The athletes come first, and with the team support staff, we are hoping to make it a memorable experience for them.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SASCOC president Barry Hendriks said that the 2020 Olympics was a success for South African athletes and is confident that the Paralympic team will follow suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I spent time with Team SA at the Tokyo Olympics and can report back that the entire squad were true ambassadors for the country,\u201d said Hendriks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;There was a visible unity among the squad, and new sincere friendships were formed. There\u2019s so much that we can be proud of as a nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The baton has been passed to the Paralympians.
